Mari people have decided to make a special extraordinary congress again
 The
majority of leaders of Mari national movement have come to such an emergency
measure on December 20 2004 after announcing the results of elections of
the president of the Mari El Republic.
As expected, the results of the elections were rudely fabricated, in
the course of pre-election race and in the course of elections the constitutional
and electoral rights of the citizens were defied; the citizens were exposed
to the administrative pressure, fear, intimidation, bribery and were persecuted.
Official progovernmental mass medias were closed for so called "oppositional"
candidates for deputy, at the same time they boldly lied and misinformed
the people of the republic.
The fair elections in such situation are out of the question.
The leaders of social movements were forced to organize an unsanctioned
picket (due to the lack of time) on December 20 opposite the Government
House with about 30 people. Some organizers and participants of the picket
were brought to administrative penalty. The posters had the following content:
Putin! Take Markelov away!, Bankruptcy + Unemployment + Poverty = Markelov!,
No despotism of power!, Central Executive Committee of Russia! Cancel
the results of the elections!, Year 2005 without Markelov
On the first day after the elections, prosecutions and persecutions
of those who were not satisfied with Markelovs regime and fought against
him began. The heads of Uledur, Bolshoi-Lyazhdur rural administrations
of Kuzhener district (raion), the head of Karai rural administration of
Volzhsk district, lawyers, teachers, and other specialists in different
regions have been dismissed. The heads of administrations got the order
to make lists of propagandists and observers on the part of oppositional
candidates with the succeeding repressive measures. Lists of people who
did not take part in the elections are urgently compiled in all public
institutions in order to dismiss them in future.
The majority of population who are honest and fair are kept in fear
and intimidated.
The leaders of social organizations and movements on the day following
the elections adopted a special decision: to be against the despotism of
power that looks like repressions of the 1930-s showing by this the strong
citizenship. To let the former power that brought all industry and agriculture
to bankruptcy to rule the republic means to expose the Mari Republic to
the despotism of power.
Therefore, it was decided to conduct a special extraordinary congress
that would take place on December 23 2004 in the hall of XXX-years of Victory
Recreation Centre.
The beginning is at 9 oclock.
In addition, those activists decided in advance to make an approved
nationwide protest in front of the Government House of the Mari El Republic.
The protest will take place just after the end of work of the congress
at 13 oclock.
